What Are Meta Glasses?
Meta glasses, developed in collaboration with Ray-Ban, are stylish eyewear equipped with a built-in camera, speakers, and artificial intelligence. These innovative glasses can be controlled using your voice, buttons, or simple gestures. To access features like music playback or Meta’s AI assistant, the glasses must be paired with a smartphone or connected to the internet.
Unlike some earlier smart glasses, Meta glasses do not feature a display in the lenses. However, Meta is actively developing a future model that will offer a fully holographic experience.
Key Features of Meta Glasses
Meta glasses are designed for convenience and versatility, they allow you to:
- Capture photos and videos directly from the onboard camera.
- Upload media files seamlessly to Instagram or Facebook.
- Livestream directly to Meta’s supported social platforms.
- Make audio and video calls, send messages, and enjoy your favorite music.
The glasses’ camera also empowers Meta’s AI assistant to interpret your surroundings. For example, it can:
- Translate text into various languages.
- Provide information about nearby landmarks.
- Answer simple questions in real-time, all hands-free.
Limitations of Meta Glasses
While Meta glasses excel in several areas, they do have some limitations:
- They cannot handle complex tasks such as booking reservations or providing turn-by-turn navigation.
- Without a display in the lenses, there’s no visual viewfinder for photo or video framing.
For privacy protection, Meta glasses feature an LED indicator that lights up whenever the camera is active. This indicator cannot be turned off to ensure transparency when capturing images or video.
